Tanning Tips for a Flawless Finish

Get your best island bronze with these simple prep steps:

1. Exfoliate first.
Smooth skin = smooth tan. Gently buff away dry skin with our Pineapple Face & Body Polish or an exfoliating mitt at least 12–24 hours before tanning.

2. Skip the products.
Avoid soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and especially deodorant before applying. (Trust us—your armpits will turn green.) These products can block the mousse or react with DHA, leaving uneven patches. A quick rinse is fine—just pat your skin completely dry afterward.

3. Hold off on hair removal.
Shaving or waxing can open pores and cause streaking. Wait at least 24 hours after hair removal before applying Sun Sprinkle for a seamless, even glow.

4. Use a barrier cream where needed.
Apply a light layer of Cap’n Coconut Body Moisturizer to hands, feet, and dry areas like elbows or knees before tanning. You can also smooth a small amount along the bikini line if you prefer a softer color transition.

5. Apply to clean, dry skin.
Use long, circular motions with a tanning mitt and blend carefully at wrists and ankles for the most natural, vacation-ready finish.

6. Set and stay comfy.
After application, lightly dust with your favorite body or setting powder to reduce tackiness and enhance comfort. Slip into loose, black or dark flowy clothing while your tan develops.

7. Rinse gently.
After your development time, rinse with cool-lukewarm water for ~3-5 minutes, rinsing all nooks and crannies. Skip the soap on that first rinse. Pat skin dry (don’t rub).

Aftercare: Keep Your Tan Glowing

Your color will continue to develop for up to 24 hours after rinsing—then it’s all about maintenance.

1. Moisturize daily.
Hydration keeps your bronze buttery and even. Use our Body Balm or Hydrating Toner daily to extend the life of your tan.

2. Avoid exfoliating early.
Hold off on scrubs or retinol-based products until you’re ready to start fresh—these will fade your color faster.

3. Skip long soaks.
Hot baths, chlorine, and saltwater can break down your tan more quickly. Rinse and moisturize afterward if you swim.

4. Reapply as needed.
For a continuous island glow, reapply every 7-10 days or layer gradually for a deeper bronze.
